Direct Restorations

When a tooth present minor to moderate damage. A direct fillings might be the restoration of choice. A filling restores the tooth to its original shape and function. It returns the mouth to good health.

Direct restorations typically requires just one visit to the clinic. The damage portion of the tooth is removed and cleaned, then the missing structure is replace with the filling material indicated for the case (composite or amalgam).

Indirect Restorations

When a tooth present moderate damage that cannot be restored with just a filling but it is not extensive enough to need a crown, an indirect filling (Inlay or onlay) might be the restoration of choice. 

An indirect filling (also known as partial crown) restores the tooth to its original shape and function. It returns the mouth to good health.

Indirect restorations typically require the restorations to be sent to a dental lab for fabrication and the they are cemented to the natural tooth been restored.
